The Israeli El-Al Airline conducted a first ever historic rescue flight to Melbourne, bringing 10 Australians home and taking 280 stranded Israelis back from here to Tel-Aviv, after which both groups have to adhere to a 14 day quarantine in hotels in their respective countries. Police in Melbourne closed a Passover prayers’ gathering of a group of breakaway former Addass-Israel ultra-Orthodox men in Ripponlea, who despite previous warnings of not adhering to the Corona Virus pandemic rules, continued to meet in a small synagogue and the police also charged their leaders with a $1652 penalty. Melbourne Jewish Community Radio Station J-Air had to apologise to the gay community for a re-broadcast and podcast of an Israel News Radio Station’s Tamar Yonah Show, during which a guest Rabbi Mendel Kessin allegedly linked the Corona virus pandemic to “the messianic process to remove homosexuality and gays”, end of quote. The NSW JCA has launched an $18 million appeal to fund assistance for vulnerable members of the Jewish community of NSW who may fall through the cracks despite the Australian Government’s generous assistance packages to those effected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
