Jewish worshippers in Brisbane were attacked, spat on and insulted with antisemitic and Nazi slogans and salutes, when they came out of the Margaret St., Synagogue last Friday evening, but thanks to the swift action by the Jewish Community Security Group and police one alleged attacker was arrested. The “March of the Living” - MOTL Organisation in Sydney held a touching internet link-up evening with Nobuki Sugihara , the son of Chiune Sugihara, the WWII Japanese Consul in Lithuania who saved some 6,000 Jews from almost certain death, by issuing them with illegal exit visas, which allowed them to escape the Nazis via Russia to Japan and China, mainly finding a haven in Shanghai, before coming to Australia and other countries after the war. Two Jewish weddings and two Bar Mitsvahs scheduled for last weekend in Melbourne, were quickly and successfully brought forward to Friday, to just beat the Covid-19 lockdown deadline, imposed in the State of Victoria on that day at 11.59PM.
