Alex Dafner with the latest news in Yiddish 23.8.2020 The Melbourne Jewish Care Victoria’s Hannah & Daryl Cohen Family Home for the elderly continued to suffer from the impact of Covid-19 infections in the state this week, with 31 residents as well as 19 staff infected with the virus. The Victorian Premier Dan Andrews spoke out sharply against some members of the Jewish ultra-orthodox community, as in all communities, who allegedly abused the permitted, under the Stage 4 COVID-19 lockdown rules “support meetings”, to hold religious worship gatherings, which are strictly prohibited under such rules. The NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and former federal NSW MP Dr Mike Kelly addressed the AGM of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and raised the issues of vigilance against the growing antisemitism in the era of COVID-19 and the need to stand up for what is right and being the voice of those who need to be heard.
