The President of the Zionist Federation of Australia, Jeremy Liebler met with the Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem and other high ranking Israeli Ministers, and discussed ways to maintain and strengthen the already strong relationship between the two countries and the Australian Jewish community’s relationship with the Jewish State, as well problems the face in Australia.
The Australasian Union of Jewish Students, AUJS and the CSG, Jewish Community Security Group in Victoria, announced their cooperation efforts to better prepare and protect Jewish students on University Campuses, following a spate of anti-Israel and at times antisemitic articles and motions appearing at various Australian University SRCs representative bodies and student journals.
A number of Sydney schools that have recently experienced antisemitic expressions and incidents, have asked the “Courage to Care”, Holocaust and tolerance advocacy education service to assist them in fighting prejudice and intolerance in their schools.
The Australian Premier Minister Anthony Albanese and opposition leader Peter Dutton, as well as various State Premiers, have wished the Australian Jewish community a Shana Tova, Happy Jewish New Year and pointed out the contribution the community makes to Australian society, as well as recognising the difficulties experienced in celebrating Rosh Hashana over the past few years, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
