SBS Yiddish report: with Alex Dafner: Melbourne Jewish Labor MP Mark Dreyfus, was appointed Attorney General of Australia

The Melbourne Jewish Labor Parliamentarian Josh Burns, MP for MacNamara, the  electorate with the largest Jewish population in Australia, was re-elected narrowly, giving the Albanese Labor Government a majority 76 seats they required to govern in their own right, whilst another Melbourne Jewish Labor MP Mark Dreyfus, was again appointed Attorney General of Australia.

Jewish Community leaders congratulated the incoming Australian PM Anthony Albanese and his Labor government on coming to power and the opposition Liberal Party’s new leader Peter Dutton and deputy Susan Ley, who reiterated her party’s strong pro-Israel stance, its support for the Abraham Accords between Israel and the UAE and listing of the whole of Hamas as a terrorist organisation.

The President of the ECAJ, Jillian Segal, was one of nine Australian ethnic community leaders who signed the Joint Resolution on the Uluru Statement from the Heart on its fifth anniversary, calling on political leaders to take bipartisan action to hold a referendum on a First Nations voice to Parliament and recognition in the Australian Constitution.
