Serious differences of opinion were expressed within the Jewish community following the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement that the Government will adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism last week, with the more leftist Jewish organisations in opposition and the mainstream and right organisations for the adoption.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry has proposed the experienced diplomat Amir Maimon, as the country’s new permanent Ambassador to Australia, a post that has been vacant since August 2020, and who is likely to take up the post in Canberra at the start of 2022, once the Israeli and Australian governments endorse the appointment.
The NSW Parliament will shortly consider passing a new law that bans the public displays of Nazi symbols such as swastikas in that state, with special exemptions made for eastern religions’ uses, academic research and artistic uses.
Eddie Jaku OAM, e”h, Holocaust survivor, well know Sydney and Australian spokesman and author of the popular autobiography “The Happiest Man Alive”, who died at the age of 101, has been granted a State Memorial Service by the Government of NSW, following his limited in attendance funeral at the Rookwood Cemetery last week due to the Covid restrictions.
