Jewish students expressed their fear of continuing going on campus at the University of Adelaide, following an article in the university’s students’ magazine, which called for “Death to Israel”, and after they were ridiculed and ignored at a subsequent Student Representative Council meeting, where they tried to express their fears and objections to the article.
Jewish leaders condemned a video of a Neo-Nazi group’s gathering and Heil Hitler salutes outside the South Australian Jewish Holocaust Museum, an act which has hastened the South Australian Parliament’s research into the banning of open displays of Nazi symbols, as was done in Victoria and NSW recently.
The Jewish federal parliamentarian and Labor representative of the seat of MacNamara, Josh Burns MP, has introduced a motion calling on all states in Australia to follow the lead of Victoria and NSW and make Holocaust education a mandatory part of their school curriculum.
A NSW Jewish Board of Deputies’ website was inundated with reports of antisemitic incidents, following their launch of an online portal for Jewish students and their families across the state, to report incidents of antisemitic abuse and bullying.
