SBS Yiddish with Alex Dafner: international campaign to combat Holocaust trivialisation and more news

The most comprehensive ever survey of Australians’ awareness and knowledge of the Holocaust, commissioned by the Gandel Foundation, was released on the 27th January 2022, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, with mixed positive and negative findings and indications for the way forward re the remembrance and lessons of that horrific WWII genocide.

Jewish community leaders in Australia welcomed the passing of a United Nations’ resolution condemning the denial and distortion of facts of the Holocaust, on the 80th anniversary of the notorious Wannsee Conference, at which the Nazis planned the genocidal “final solution” of European Jewry.

A prominent Melbourne Holocaust child survivor and former community leader, Nina Bassett, joined the international campaign to combat Holocaust trivialisation, in the wake of a report looking into Covid-19 protestors’ misuse of the Holocaust references and imagery.

25 Jewish Australians, including the country’s former Chief Scientist, Dr Alan Finkel, were among the 732 recipients of Australia Day honours this year.
