American cheerleaders dance to 'Ghoomar' at NBA match

The theme song from one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time has become a worldwide sensation, with even the American NBA getting in on the action.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest offering, Padmaavat  saw violent protests in India when it opened  due to the fact that the controversial movie, based on a 16th-century legend, depicts romance between a Hindu queen and a Muslim ruler.

The film was finally released on 25th January and has so far collected over Rs 1 billion in revenue, even though some Indian states have ‘banned’ it.

The film set an all-time record in the US and Canada on the opening day with box office earnings of about $1.2 million.

On 28th January, the film’s popular theme song even reached a basketball court in US where cheerleaders dressed in Indian attire performed to ‘Ghoomar’ during an NBA basketball match between Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat.

The video has gone viral on Facebook and has been shared by film’s stars – Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor.
