A woman, resident of Wellington, NZ has reported a witchdoctor who duped her of $75,000.

The report published by stuff.co.nz says it all started with palm reading which cost the lady $10. But in matter of weeks, she was led to shell out $75,000 by a smooth-talking witchdoctor.

"They are so determined. They brainwash you completely. You are in their hands," the woman, who did not want to be named, told stuff.co.nz.

The woman came across this witchdoctor through a pamphlet handed over to her at a local market. She visited him and his wife for a palm reading session.

She revealed the male witchdoctor was of South Indian origin, with a moustache and medium-length hair.

Talking about her visits, she pointed out the witchdoctor dressed in yellow robes to give a spiritual feel.

"They do wear priest's clothes in their house so you think they're good people."

The victim had approached the witchdoctors who persuaded her that they could help her get rid of the evil spirits.

The victim was told that her child was in danger. Not only that, the witchdoctor’s wife came to stay with her after the witchdoctor told her that a dead bird in her compound indicated malevolent spirit.

"I was scared. I could not come into my house. They said 'there's a spirit in your house'," she said.

It got to the point where she was told that she only had a week to live. Scared and desperate, the victim withdrew $25,000 and handed it over to the couple in cash.

She also gave them some other cash and jewellery worth another $50,000 later in 2013.

The news report stated that the witchdoctors left the country, but kept calling her.

When the journalist called on the number advertised, a man answered to say that he was a genuine astrologer who performed rituals and practised astrology.

He however offered the complainant to come to Bangalore to sort out the matter.

The victim said she was angry at herself for falling prey to such people and warned others to avoid such people.
