An Indian-origin scholar has been appointed as the Dean in Canadian University.
Veterinary medical expert, Dr. Baljit Singh has been appointed as the Dean of Canada’s prestigious University of Calgary's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Baljit Singh is a highly accomplished researcher, educator and administrator in the field of veterinary medicine, with specific expertise in lung biology and anatomy.
Provost and Vice-President (Academic) of the university Dru Marshall in a statement said, Dr. Singh will take over the position of Dean on September 1.
Dr Singh completed his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry and Master of Veterinary Science from Punjab Agricultural University.
He then completed his PhD from the University of Guelph in Ontario and postdoctoral training at Texas A and M University and Columbia University, New York.
Dr. Singh’s accomplishments:
- 3M National Teaching Fellowship
- University of Saskatchewan’s Provost’s Prize for Innovative Practice of Teaching and Learning
- University of Saskatchewan Master Teacher Award
- Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award
- Outstanding Veterinary Anatomist Award from the American Association of Veterinary Anatomists
- Pfizer Award for Research Excellence
- Fellow of the American Association of Anatomists (2013)
"I am deeply honored to be selected as the dean of the University of Calgary's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. I am excited that the faculty has outstanding opportunities to lead in veterinary medical education and knowledge-creation to solve complex animal and human problems at the local, national and international level," stated Dr. Singh said in a statement issued by the university.
