29-year-old Abdul Raheem Fahad Syed was killed after a speeding black Mercedes ploughed into his Toyota Prius in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday morning.
The couple had moved to New Zealand in 2014 and hailed from Hyderabad in India.
His wife Nishat Abedi said he was working long hours to support his family. The couple had recently welcomed a son, Abdul, who is now five months old.
"For me, everything is numb. I have many things in my heart."
"He was an excellent father. All I did was feed [the baby]" Abedi said.
Syed did everything else - from changing his nappies, to giving him bottles to making sure little Abdul was sleeping before he left for work.
"He did every little job."
His death has shocked the community and his close friends in New Zealand.
Generous people have donated more than $80,000 through an online fundraiser to fund the repatriation of his body back to India and support his small dependent family.
His body was flown to India on Thursday night where his funeral will be held.
The man accused of ramming his car into Fahad’s taxi has been granted bail.
Police have alleged 20-year-old Farshad Bahadori Esfehani was double the legal alcohol limit. He has been charged with driving with excess blood alcohol causing death, a charge of excess breath alcohol causing injury to another person, and failing to stop.
Esfehani is due in court again in February.
