A 26-year-old man who was visiting Melbourne from Queensland has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a Melbourne taxi driver and ran away with his cab.

This Queensland man allegedly carjacked a taxi driver on Sunday. He first dragged the 33-year-old taxi driver out of his cab and then drove off with the cab, abandoning it at Bendigo-Sutton Grange Road in Harcourt.

He then stole another car in Melbourne and headed to airport where police arrested him on Thursday.

The man faces several charges including robbery and criminal damage and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.
