Rahul Gandhi recently gained a huge following of over 1 million followers on Twitter in a span of two months.
Many raised questions about his Twitter success and hinted there was a team involved behind his tweets.
On Sunday, Gandhi shot back with his response by introducing his pet, Pidi, as the one responsible for handling his Twitter account.
"People (have) been asking who tweets for this guy... I'm coming clean..it's me..Pidi..I'm way smarter than him. Look what I can do with a tweet..oops..treat!," Mr Gandhi tweeted.
The ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) had a quick comeback. Party's national IT in-charge, Amit Malviya, tweeted an image that said "the dog who is smarter than his master."
Former Congress leader who defected to BJP, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted recalling how Pidi grabbed Gandhi’s attention during an important meeting.
#Pidi soon started trending on Twitter, with followers on both ends of the political spectrum commenting on Gandhi’s tweet.
