Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will remember the last and the fifth One-Day International against Australia for more than one reason.
After crossing the 8000-run mark in ODIs and becoming the third fastest player to reach the milestone after scoring his 41st half-century at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on Wednesday, Sharma got out in one of the most bizarre run-outs.
Sharma stepped out of the crease to hit the ball delivered by Adam Zampa when he missed it and the bat went flying out of his hand. The ball landed in wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s gloves and he stumped them with Sharma, stranded without a bat, helplessly looking on.
While his dismissal left many disappointed, the strange dismissal became a hilarious viral meme online.
