Several members of the Indian community gathered at the Indian Consulate in St Kilda, Melbourne on Wednesday noon to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
Special events which included an interactive talk on ‘Belief in Leadership the Gandhi Way’ by Shriram Iyer and a memorial ceremony were organised to commemorate 150 years of celebrating the Mahatma.
“Gandhi inspired other great leaders like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Albert Einstein. Let your belief system lead your behaviour. That's what Mahatma taught us,” Shriram Iyer said to the audience present.
A special week-long exhibition on Life of Mahatma Gandhi was launched at the Consulate.

The Consul General of India in Melbourne, Mr Raj Kumar said, “We are celebrating Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary in 2019 and 2020. And such celebration has been organised across the world.”
"The week long exhibition is open to all free of cost.
"My message to all within our community is to walk on the path that Gandhiji has shown us - that of truth and non-violence," Mr Kumar told SBS Hindi.

The Adelaide Indian Students’ Society in conjunction with The Indian Australian Association of South Australia and The University of Adelaide has organised a special hour-long event on Wednesday at the university campus.
An interactive workshop to mark the 2019 United Nations International Day of Non-Violence observed on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, has been organised by the Brahma Kumaris Australia in Sydney on Thursday.
A memorial service, a re-enactment of Dandi March and a panel discussion took place at the University of New South Wales in Sydney on Wednesday.
In Western Australia, a Mahatma Gandhi Walk will take place on Saturday at the Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth.
In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying homage to iconic freedom movement leader, Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial in New Delhi.
