As the mystery behind 21-year-old Tej Chitnis's disappearance deepens, The Age reports that Police investigating the disappearance found that Tej had been absent from his University since 2014.

He was enrolled in a health science course at Deakin’s Geelong campus and is believed to have planned to study medicine at Monash.

The report mentions that Tej’s parents only recently discovered this fact that their son had been absent from his classes for 2 years.

Tej’s mother, Reva Chitnis had earlier told SBS that her son had expressed uncertainty over his future. “We told him to take a break. You don’t need to worry about your whole life when you are just 21,” Mrs Chitnis said.

While it is not known, what he was doing while being absent from University, Tej worked part-time at Officeworks in Vermont and also played for a basketball team.

Tej was last seen leaving his Burwood East home on April 27 at about 10am in his silver VW Golf. Police had spotted his car the same day at Healesville around 11.30am.

Family and friends have carried out numerous searches, distributed pamphlets and posters at several locations in Yarra Valley.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Forest Hill Police Station on 8847 3636 or triple-0.
