The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had advised people in North India not to drink alcohol and stay at home as a fresh cold wave has sent temperatures plummeting in India's capital.

"Don't drink alcohol. It reduces your body temperature," the IMD has advised according to the Hindustan Times.

"Get indoors. Eat vitamin-C-rich fruits and moisturize your skin regularly to counter the effects of severe cold."

Officials have warned for a severe cold wave in the coming days.

The dip in the temperature has caused the air quality to drop from 'poor' to 'very poor' in Delhi.

Delhi-based journalist Vishal Shukla says it's not a good time to be in Delhi.

"It is awful here in Delhi. Cold, pollution and the Covid-19 scare everything has come together to haunt us Delhiites," he said.

The IMD expects Cold Wave/Severe cold wave conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan from 28th December 2020.
