The Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2025, organized by the National School of Drama (NSD) in India, is celebrating its 25th edition.
This festival spans 13 cities across India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, bringing together artists and audiences for a shared experience of artistic expression.
NSD Director Chitranjan Tripathi announced that this year's annual festival will feature 'Vishwa Jan Rang,' a virtual performance showcasing short plays by Non-Resident Indians from all seven continents, breaking language barriers.
This virtual performance will include a short play script based on the Nāṭyaśāstra, where Bharat Muni shares knowledge and wisdom with fellow sages.
The Nāṭyaśāstra, written mainly in Sanskrit by sage Bharat Muni, is a fundamental Indian text on the performing arts, believed to date back to the 5th century BCE.
Tripathi mentioned that participation does not have to involve stage performances; it can also include professional script-reading exercises. He envisions international participation embracing the theme of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family).
This year, the festival aims to be inclusive by representing all sections of society, including marginalised gender communities and various age groups—both elderly and children—as well as diverse forms of theatre, such as folk, street, tribal, and open-stage performances.

Tripathi further stated that Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2025 will host over 200 productions from nine different countries, with performances taking place at 11 different locations across India, as well as in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, India, was founded in 1959 as part of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
This year, it is celebrating the silver jubilee of its flagship annual festival, which was initiated in 1999 by then NSD director Ram Gopal Bajaj.
The Bharat Rang Mahotsav festival opened on 28 January 2025, in Delhi and will run until 16 February 2025 at various locations across India.
