Australia commits $54 billion overhaul to strengthen navy for Indo-Pacific readiness

The Royal Australian Navy is undergoing a $54 billion overhaul to prepare for potential conflict in the Indo-Pacific region. The objective of this overhaul is to become 'larger and more lethal'. As part of the new blueprint, new frigates will be built offshore, and heavily armed unmanned vessels will be acquired. However, several existing shipbuilding programs will be curtailed or axed.
