Although recreational reading can mean different things to different people there is general agreement that reading for pleasure provides opportunities for escape and might also improve literacy. But how does recreational reading impact on other parts of our being?


Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Sri Mijati and Margaretha, a lecturer in psychology at Airlangga University and a PhD candidate at Melbourne University explain to Sri Dean what they read for pleasure and why.  They discuss the possible outcomes of recreational reading on a number of areas beyond pleasure and literacy.
