Elderly people with disabilities in Australia are now forced to stay at home, have financial difficulties, or are forced to undergo treatment at home.

Key Points
  • Seniors diagnosed with disability after the age of 65 are excluded from NDIS
  • The Federal funded package for Senior with disability are inadequate
  • The new Aged Care Act will be introduced into parliament later this year
Eligibility rules for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)), excludes those diagnosed with a disability after the age of 65.

This leaves them dependent on the federal government-funded Home Care Package, which advocates say -- in its current form -- does not adequately cover support needs for people with disabilities.
The Care Home package under the federal government's My Elderly Care scheme is different to the NDIS, whereby the package is capped at just under $60,000 a year - meaning less support funding.
