The RockinDo music venue in Marrickville became a venue for Indonesian diaspora rock musicians to enliven the music scene in Sydney.

The show is scheduled to take place on 28 March at Kiss My Brass, Marrickville, featuring three select local bands. The stage will be enlivened by Gomer Lapudo'oh's Pop Rock Reggae, Suitcase Cult's thumping Heavy Rock and Pop Rock, and an energetic performance from Rully & the Huruhara. Complementing the evening's revelry, DJ Jmy will guide the atmosphere with a vibrant electronic Afro House beat.

One of the initiators of RockinDo, Rully Roel, is a musician from Malang who has settled in Sydney since 2012.

Inspired by his conversations with other Indonesian diaspora musicians, they then prepared a musical event titled RockinDo which was filled by performers from other Indonesian musicians in Australia.

The event was born out of a desire to present a pure and energized performance of rock music for the Indonesian community in Australia, especially as a moment of refreshment after the fasting period.

Through his musical group, Huruhara, Rully had a vision to build a representative backing band in Sydney for musicians from Indonesia who wanted to perform concerts in Australia.

The goal is to facilitate the coordination of cultural activities so that artists from the homeland do not have to bring their entire musical team because the Indonesian musician community in Sydney is already very complete and capable in various genres.

Despite facing major challenges in time management between major work and music practice, Rully still encourages young musicians to continue working as appreciation for the professionalism of musicians in Australia is very high.

Regarding technological developments, Rully views artificial intelligence or AI as a supporting tool that functions like a flavoring spice in the creative process, rather than to take over the role of the musician entirely.

He feels optimistic about the current state of the music industry, which is more colorful and free from the limits of taste that were once often dictated by big labels.

For him, the ease of access through digital platforms such as Spotify has opened up a wider and diverse market for fresh and innovative Indonesian musical works.
