SoundSekerta 2025 may feature a renowned Indonesian singer Tulus as its headliner. However, the performances of the opening bands, Lemes and Soulcase, are not to be missed.

Two bands consisting of Indonesian students, Lemes and Soulcase, opened the SoundSekerta 2025, organised by the Indonesian Students Association of Australia (PPIA) Monash University at Melbourne Town Hall on October 1.

Lemes features Theodore Elroy (drums), Owen Ainsley (percussion), Nandrasrama Yogianto (vocals), Chelsea Mohede (vocals), Syifa Aulia (vocals), Judah Adisurya (guitar), Julian Tjahja (guitar), Jonathan Hendratno (keyboards), and Amadeus Anggaraksa (bass).

Soulcase features Ahmad Haekal (guitar), Samodra Nugraha (bass), M. Renaldo Titano (piano), Galuh Valencia (vocals), Wisam Nugraha (drums), and Rolan Nababan (guitar).

How did it feel to open for Tulus? Why do they perform Indonesian-language music in Australia? What does playing to the Indonesian diaspora mean to them? And how does music help bring the Indonesian community in Melbourne together?

Listen to a conversation on SBS Indonesian, where Chelsea Mohede and Syifa Aulia from Lemes, and Galuh Valencia and Samudra Nugraha from Soulcase, talk about their musical journey far from home.
