Local community in Sydney celebrates Lunar New Year in different ways, fostering a warm sense of togetherness while sharing traditions and culture.

After I moved to Sydney, this feeling became rare.
Lucy Leonardi

That was the comment from Lucy Leonardi, one of dozens of participants in a Lunar New Year art workshop held by the Inner West Council in Sydney.

The Tea Ceremony and Clay Happy Together took place on 27 February and was attended by participants from various cultural backgrounds. "Everyone here comes from different cultures, but everyone in this room really embraces Indo culture," said Lucy.

The facilitator for this activity was Sydney-based Chinese-Indonesian visual artist Jayanto Damanik Tan.

The warm sense of community at this event was one of the things the workshop participants shared, as Sophie Jugovac admitted.

Having lived in the Inner West Council for the past twenty years, Sophie was adopted from Vietnam by a white family in 1969. She said she was deeply interested in building relationships and connecting with Asian cultures, particularly those from Southeast Asia.

What did the participants enjoy most about this event?
