Aboriginal and non Indigenous people have come together to mark the inaugural Frontier Wars Memorial Service.

The Frontier Wars Memorial Service was held to commemorate the conflict which is a bloody history on Australian soil.

The war between the natives and settlers took place 140 years ago at the start of the colonization of Australia.

Researchers from Newcastle University found between 11,000 and 14,000 indigenous people were killed between 1788 and 1928 in what is known as the war of occupation or the Frontier Wars in English.

It is estimated that the number of victims from indigenous peoples is between 27 and 33 times greater than the deaths of Europeans who came.
