Indonesian traditional music organisation in Victoria performs Gathering of The Gamelans

On Saturday afternoon, November 25, the sounds of gamelan and the legend of Roro Jonggrang were heard from behind a church building in Northcote, Melbourne, Australia


Eight traditional Indonesian music organizations in the state of Victoria, take turns performing typical music from different regions of Indonesia, such as West Java, Bali and Central Java in an event called Gathering of The Gamelans.

The event's promoter, John Cheong-Holdaway, said the event also commemorates a figure who played a major role in spreading Indonesian traditional music in Australia, Ki Poedijono, a puppeteer, dancer and musician who died in 2021.
