The government says the initial uptake of its mobile phone app to improve the tracing of COVID-19 cases in Australia has been strong.

At least one million Australians have downloaded the COVID-19 tracer app, Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt announced on Twitter just hours after it was released.

The COVID-Safe mobile phone app became available for download on Sunday 26 April and uses bluetooth technology to help contact people exposed to coronavirus.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits.

Testing for coronavirus is now widely available across Australia. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.

The Federal Government's coronavirus tracing app COVIDSafe is available for download from your phone's app store.
