On 2020 Australia Day, ninety-six year oldVernon Turner was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (AOM) for his extraordinary service to hockey (Glebe Hockey Club) in Australia, but he also played a significant role in establishing Indonesian studies in Australian schools.
