Many Australians are coming out of the pandemic period with increased stress and many are using tobacco smoking as a coping mechanism.


The health implications of smoking tobacco are well known throughout the world.

But for many Australians changing behavior to quit for good is something that requires constant attention.

Situational factors also play a big role when deciding to quit smoking.

With two years of unprecedented lockdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, many are turning to cigarettes as a form of stress management.

Over the past year, nearly one in two Australians (49 per cent) have struggled to manage their stress levels.

Many adopted harmful coping mechanisms, including 14 percent who had switched to smoking or vaping.
