The rapid return to power by the Taliban took many people by surprise and left the Australian government with the immediate problem of bringing people home. As well there are important diplomatic and political issues to address. Can Indonesia and Australia influence the future of Afghanistan?


Prof Greg Barton, Research Professor and Chair of Global Islamic Politics in the Alfred Deakin Institute at Deakin University explains to Sri Dean why Kabul fell so quickly, how the Taliban might conduct its relationships with the international community and how this might impact on Australia.
