After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre on 11 September 2001 Americans appeared united in their hope to go to Afghanistan and track the perpetrators. It meant America would be at war for 20 years. How far did the event shape contemporary America?


American anthropologist Eben Kirksey is currently Associate Professor in the Alfred Deakin Institute in the Faculty of Arts and Education, Deakin University. Prof Kirksey explains to Sri Dean some of the changes in American life and society that emerged from the 11 September 2001 attacks and America’s response to the event.  He concludes with a hope about how Americans deal with the memory.
