Victoria becomes first state in Australia to impose levy on short-term rented properties found on platforms such as Airbnb
The levy is expected to generate $70 million a year from 2025 onwards.
The initiative is intended as a financial disincentive for landlords and investors from putting their properties into the long-term rental market.
It is also seen as a way to use the success of this platform to fund new housing developments.
