Why is there a critical shortage of young Australians studying Indonesia language and culture?   How difficult is the problem to solve?  Why?  Why are the National Australia Indonesia Language Awards so important in this context?  Dr Jane Ahlstrand explains her fears about the future of Indonesian studies in Australia.
