Some people believe should question the Federal Government’s proposal to change the fees for different university courses. And should we put the economic recovery above anything else? How the academics respond to the Federal Government’s proposal?


The cost of studying some courses like humanities will increase and the cost of other courses will be cheaper under a new Government proposal. Some people believe the policy is a reaction to the declining number of international students.  Others argue that university education needs to focus more on the workplace. What might be the social and educational impact of this change? Professor Vedi Hadiz, Director of the Asia Institute at the University of Melbourne assesses the proposal.
