World leaders and advocates are meeting in Vienna this week to work towards the banning of nuclear weapons.

Organizers of the first meeting of the Treaty of the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, held in the Austrian capital, Vienna, insisted that this was far from the truth.

The main agency working for this purpose is the International Campaign To Abolish Nuclear Weapons, the International Campaign To Abolish Nuclear Weapons, known as ICAN.

Only nine countries - the United States, Britain, Russia, France, China, Israel, North Korea, India, and Pakistan, are considered, or known to have nuclear weapons.

The number of countries that have ratified it stands at sixty-five – although no nuclear-weapon countries have signed.

Australia has not yet signed the agreement.
