Andrea Camilleri - 1925-2019

Andrea Camilleri died today at the age of 94. It was announced by the ASL Roma 1 "with deep condolences", stating that the Italian writer, who created the Inspector Montalbano character "died this morning at the Santo Spirito Hospital", where he had been hospitalized for some time.

"The ever critical conditions of these days have worsened in the last few hours, compromising vital functions. For the will of the Master and the family the funeral will be reserved. It will be announced where to bring a last tribute", said the note.

Camilleri was born in Porto Empedocle, in the province of Agrigento, on 6 September 1925. Author of dozens of books, in particular those related to the Inspector Montalbano, Camilleri had worked as a theatre director. In 1957 he was employed by Italian state broadcaster RAI, where he established himself as a screenwriter and director.
