Gianluca Spaziani plays the role of a young patient in a film by Sergio Castellitto, that recently screened at the 16th edition of Australia's Lavazza Italian Film Festival.

The young Italian actor plays a secondary role and shares the set with the actress Jasmine Trinca and the actor Stefano Accorsi.

"I'm a lucky guy because I'm determined," he tells SBS Italian.

He says he stops at nothing - and was also the first Italian person with Trisomy 21 (a type of Down Syndrome) to obtain a Bachelor's degree.

After obtaining an Arts degree at the University of Palermo in 2016, with a thesis comparing Euripides' Medea with Pier Paolo Pasolini's film, Gianluca obtained a role in the film by Castellitto. He brilliantly passed the audition performing "Love Letter" by Karl Valentin, a monologue from the genre of Absurdist theatre.

Watch his performance below:
In Rome "I had a beautiful experience," says Gianluca. "Hard but beautiful - I enjoyed myself!"

Gianluca's passion for acting was born during his high school years.

It was during a theatre workshop that he first realised he loved being on stage because, he explains: "To make the audience laugh or excite gives me a great joy."

Gianluca says he loves theatre because of the relationship he creates with his colleagues on the stage, but he says he also enjoyed the cinema experience very much. However, his greatest dream is to perform, one day, alongside the great Italian comedian, singer, radio, and television presenter  Rosario Fiorello.
"To make the audience laugh or excite gives me a great joy"
Gianluca finds his strength in the support he receives from his family and friends, especially from his best friend Giorgio. They met at primary school and then they were also mates at university.

What is Gianluca's advice for the youth actors that like him try to break through the world of acting?

"You have to believe in your dreams and be confident."
The 16th Annual Lavazza Italian Film Festival began on 12th September in Sydney and is currently touring Australia until 25th October. Details here
