An alleged terror plot in Sydney has been uncovered by NSW police and the Australian Federal Police.

The NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team conducted raids in Sydney on Tuesday overseen by the AFP, a spokeswoman told AAP.

"There is no immediate threat to the safety of community as a result of this activity," she said.

It has been reported that three people have been arrested and the operation is targeting several suburbs including Canada Bay, Chester Hill, Greenacre, Green Valley, Ingleburn and Toongabbie.
