Activist Fabian Lo Schiavo is a proud a 78er, one of the very first members of Sydney's gay and lesbian community to take part in the 1978 Mardi Gras.
"I could not understand why the police was so abusive and violent against us", says Lo Schiavo talking about the 1978 event. "It was the police action that made me become an activist and to come out and tell my father I was gay".
Now Lo Schiavo is concerned that Mardi Gras is turning into a commercial enterprise and that the historic meaning of the event might be lost for ever.
