The Fireflies of Autumn and Other Tales of San Ginese, first book of Italoaustralian author Moreno Giovannoni, was published by Black Inc. on Monday 2 July.

A few months ago we interviewed translator and interpreter Moreno Giovannoni, who has just made his debut as an author with his book The Fireflies of Autumn and Other Tales of San Ginese, set in his and his family's home town, near Lucca. Moreno was born there and moved to Australia as a little child, with his young parents. Later he went back to Italy and spent some time with his grandparents, meeting a series of people and learning local stories that years later would have inspired the tales we find in his book.

The Tuscany where Giovannoni's stories are set is no Chiantishire: San Ginese is a little rural town, where people work hard, sometimes migrate, and where individual stories intertwine and take on a fairy-tale flavour. This time Moreno begins our interview by reading part of his book, a tale of migration to Australia.
