Mr Maggiotto, originally from Castelfranco Veneto, is 82 years old, but was only 19 when he arrived in Sydney in 1957. He distinguished himself "for service to the community through charitable organisations".
Mr Maggiotto has always wanted to avoid the spotlight, despite having contributed to the construction of the Scalabrini Villages and raised large sums of money for charity and for the fight against cerebral palsy.
