A free workshop to know and protect your rights and understand the basics of labour legislation, aimed especially at temporary workers in Australia.

"Wage exploitation of temporary migrants offends our national values of fairness", according to the Report of the Migrant Workers’ Taskforce, released by the Attorney's General Department in 2019.

"The number of temporary migrants admitted to the country under the international student and working holiday visas have been uncapped, and particularly in the former category, has been growing strongly in recent years. Temporary migrant workers now constitute about six per cent of the workforce, excluding New Zealand visa holders, and are having a significant effect on the operation of the labour market".

"OH&S - Workers 'Compensation. Know your rights at work" is an event is dedicated to these topics, an opportunity to learn what rights are migrant workers entitled to and how to defend them.

A free event organized by the Coasit of Melbourne and Nomit Inc. Fabrizio Venturini, Community Safety Ambassador of the Migrant Workers Center in Victoria, and Gabrielle Marchetti of Job Watch will host the event.

As Venturini explained to SBS Italian, the event will touch on useful topics to know for all Australian jobs, regardless of whether you stay or not.

"The work compensation system is accessible to every worker in Victoria, regardless of the visa he has, even if he was a Student Visa, it is still accessible to everyone"
"OH&S - Workers’ Compensation. Conosci i tuoi diritti sul lavoro"
