The death toll from last Friday's terror attack at two Christchurch mosques has risen to 50. New Zealand police chief Mike Bush confirmed that one of the injured has died in hospital.

36 people remain in hospital, two in critical condition. Bush added that two of the people arrested were released because they were not involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant has been charged with murder and remanded in custody.

The Australian white supremacist, handcuffed and barefoot, was wearing white prisoner clothes. Flanked by two police officers, he grinned when reporters photographed him in the courtroom.

To analyse what happened in New Zealand, we spoke to Fabio Tonacci, a journalist with Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, who is covering the massacre from Christchurch. Tonacci is the author of several books, including "Italian Jihadists" with Giuliano Foschini.
