The 2020 edition of Premio Strega has great news: six, and not the classic five writers, are expected in the final.
Among the finalists leads with 210 votes Sandro Veronesi "Il colibrì"; followed by Gianrico Carofiglio and his "La misura del tempo" with 199 votes, on an equal footing with Valeria Parrella with "Almarina". Third place, with 181 votes, for Gian Arturo Ferrari with the novel "Ragazzo Italiano", followed by Daniele Mencarelli with "Tutto chiede salvezza" and 168 votes.
To the list it has been later added Jonathan Bazzi with the book "Febbre" published by Fandango Libri.
"For the first time we find ourselves admitting a six authors, including at least one book published by a medium-small publisher," explained Melania Mazzucco, president of the Steering Committee.
Gianrico Carofiglio had already been a finalist of the Witch in 2012. "Prizes are an important thing, but the importance of which should not be exaggerated" explains the author, "I believe that a writer should not expect to know if he is good or not good by jurors of a prize ".
About his "The measure of time", a judicial drama that brings the character Guido Guerrieri on stage, he says "the whole novel moves on the double temporal plane, which is a double emotional plane" explains Carofiglio, "we are not capable to talk about time without analogies and metaphors and this tells us about the complexity of the concept, and the novel wanted above all to deal with this paradox ”.
The announcement of the 2020 edition winner is expected for July 2nd.
