In the summer of 1983, in the north of Italy, Elio Perlman, (Timothée Chalamet) a 17- year-old American spends his days in his family’s 17th century villa lazily transcribing music and flirting with his friend Marzia (Esther Garrel). One day, Oliver (Armie Hammer), a 24-year-old graduate student working on his doctorate, arrives as the annual summer intern tasked with helping Elio’s father (Michael Stuhlbarg), an eminent professor specialising in Greco-Roman culture. Soon, Elio and Oliver discover a summer that will alter their lives forever. Call Me By Your Name, directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by James Ivory, is based on the novel by André Aciman.

Candy is a contemporary love story of startling beauty directed by acclaimed theatre director Neil Armfield and adapted from the bestselling novel by Luke Davies. In the title role, Abbie Cornish plays a young artist whose lust for life takes her to the edge of sanity. Heath Ledger is Dan, a sometime poet lost in love with Candy. Candy gravitates to Dan and his bohemian lifestyle - and his love of heroin. Winner of the AFI Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Bill Shakespeare is a hapless lute player with a big dream. Kicked out of his band, Bill leaves his despairing wife and kids behind in Stratford to seek fame and fortune in London. He’s written a great work for the stage and he’ll prove all the doubters wrong.

Saturday at 6.30pm on SBS Food - Gino's Italian Escape

Chef Gino D’Acampo begins his second Italian Escape in beautiful Florence. He's on a mission to examine the food that has shaped this Renaissance city. His journey begins as he tackles the famous ‘bistecca alla Fiorentina’ - the finest, thickest, juiciest steak in Tuscany. He is excited to grill the colossal cut of beef at a local restaurant and - naturally - has to savour its delicious flavour. Enthused by the mouth-watering steak, Gino shows off his take on this dish - tagliata - sliced T-bone steak with a colourful courgette ribbon and goat’s cheese salad. Before leaving the city, Gino encounters a historic speciality - ‘lampredotto’. This popular Florentine street food is made from cow’s stomach - but is Gino is game for eating it? Satisfied with Florence’s best savoury food, Gino heads to the town of Prato for something sweeter. Here, he meets a pastry chef who thrills Gino with his speciality ‘peaches’ - brioche buns with an aromatic, creamy filling. Inspired by his delightful discovery, Gino conjures up his own dessert of apple poached in red wine with amaretti biscuit cream.

Matthew McConaughey plays AIDS patient-turned-accidental activist Ron Woodruff. In 1985 Dallas, electrician and hustler Ron Woodroof works around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication they need after he is diagnosed with the disease. Winner of three Academy Awards, including Best Actor (McConaughey) and best Supporting Actor (Jared Leto). Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, and also stars Jennifer Garner and Steve Zahn.

Tuesday at 9.30pm on World Movies - Il Divo

For more than 50 years, he has been Italy's most powerful, feared and enigmatic politician. And as Giulio Andreotti begins his seventh term as prime minister, he and his hardliner faction take control of a country reeling from the brazen murders of several high-level bankers, judges and journalists, as well as the kidnapping and assassination of former prime minister, Aldo Moro. Winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2008. Directed by Paolo Sorrentino and stars Toni Servillo, Anna Bonaiuto and Giulio Bosetti.

Tuesday at 9.35pm on SBS - Why Do I Put On Weight?

Italian culture is famous the world over for its art, history and architecture, but food is integral to an Italians identity. Silvia explores how to make three meals that have become national treasures, like the 1000 year old recipe for pasta Amatriciana, a seafood dish from the Puglia region that is largely unknown to the outside world, and a pizza dish so cherished, its recipe is protected by the EU and the United Nations - pizza Napoletana.
