Port of Melbourne is Australia's biggest port and home to the largest international container terminal.

Port of Melbourne began its operations in 1889, and over the past decades it has become the biggest port of Australia and one of the most trafficked in South East Asia.

Organised crime has always tried to exploit its inevitable security weaknesses caused by its sheer size and volume of commercial transactions, using the port as a gateway for smuggling illicit substances to Australia.

Senior lecturer at Essex University Anna Sergi tells SBS Italian how organised crime is expanding in Australia taking advantage of the port of Melbourne.
