Today there are more than 90,000 cases of coronavirus in the world. Most of them are still localised in China, particularly in the province of Hubei where the virus originated, and of the 9000 cases detected outside China 81% are concentrated in 4 countries: Iran, South Korea, Japan and Italy.
According to the updated data on the website of the Italian Ministry of Health on the 3rd of March, there are 2263 people who test positive for the virus. 1034 patients are hospitalised with symptoms, while 229 are in intensive care and 1000 are in home isolation.
"The emergency now is to reduce uncertainty" explains Marco Lombardi, professor of Sociology at Catholic University of Milan and risk management expert, but the communication of the coronavirus emergency in Italy was "disastrous".
According to professor Lombardi the problem was above all that even technicians and scientists, as politicians normally do, have discussed their differences of opinion publicly and briskly. "This should not be done" explains Lombardi, who instead underlines the need for the authorities to have a common communication strategy to follow.
"It does not mean saying something false. It means, in the uncertainty that exists at the moment, to choose which is the common line to follow."
