About 193 million Indonesians have gone to the polls to decide who will lead the world's most populous Muslim nation.
The presidential race is between the outgoing Joko Widodo and the general Prabowo Subianto and, although the counting of the votes has not yet been concluded, Widodo is headed for a second term.
We asked our correspondent from Southeast Asia, Alessandro Ursic, to explain the importance of this vote from a geopolitical point of view.
