Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has been questioned by prosecutors from northern Italy after relatives of Covid-19 victims demanded an inquiry into alleged government negligence.

Prosecutors in Bergamo, the Lombardy province worst hit by the virus, also questioned the Health minister, Roberto Speranza and the Interior minister, Luciana Lamorgese, over the failure by authorities to quarantine the towns of Alzano Lombardo and Nembro after outbreaks occurred there. We discussed the matter with Milan-based journalist Andrea Eusebio, with whom we also talked about the statue of renown Italian journalist Indro Montanelli, who infamously recounted in the 1970s his "marriage" to a 12-year-old girl during his military service in Africa: the statue has been smeared with red paint in Milan, as protests against racism rage in many countries.
